The Northeast Tour will take you on a 6 mile hike to Coal Shute Point, Moss Cove and views of Monastery Beach.
Parking to Carmelo Meadow Trail
For this tour you will park outside the Reserve and walk in. Parking can be found along the north and south bound lanes of Hwy 1. During certain busy times of the year (holidays or events) the south bound parking may be restricted.

Once you find parking you will make your way into the main entrance of the Reserve and locate the Carmelo Meadow trail. This trail is named after the Carmelo Me...

Carmelo Meadow Trail to The Pit
Carmelo Meadow Trail will dead end into Whaler's Cove where you will take a right on Granite Point Trail.

Follow the trail along Whaler's Cove and look carefully along the shoreline for seals and herons.

Granite Point Trail will dead end at The Pit (by a bench) where you will take a left to view Coal Chute Point.

Make your way around Coal Chute Point back to the bench.

Coal Chute Point Trail to The Pit Beach
Continue north on Granite Point Trail heading down to the The Pit beach.

Granite Point Trail will dead end into Moss Cove Trail, make a left on Moss Cove Trail heading down to the beach.

Please note that at certain times of year this trail to the beach is closed.

Spend time exploring the beach and viewing the wildlife in and around the cove. When you are done head back up Moss Cov...

Moss Cove Trail to Granite Point
As you head out of The Pit beach on Moss Cove Trail, make a left on Granite Point Trail to head to Granite Point.

Granite Point is one of my favorite spots on Point Lobos. Typically it is not very crowded and you are treated to great views of the ocean and surf.

Make your way around Granite Point and head to the large rock for some great photo opportunities. When you are done exploring...

Moss Cove Trail loop
Make a left on Moss Cove Trail and head towards Monastery Beach. Along the way head down to the beach on Moss Cove and explore the shoreline. During high tide you may not be able to completely walk the beach but there are numerous access paths back to Moss Cove Trail.

Continue on Moss Cove Trail until you reach Ichxenta Point that overlooks Monastery Beach.
